Opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö järjestää keskustelufoorumin taloudellisesti ja sisällöllisesti kestävästä kulttuurimatkailusta. Tapahtuma on osa Suomen puheenjohtajuuskauden ohjelmaa Itämeren valtioiden neuvostossa.

Foorumiin kutsutaan erilaisia julkisen ja yksityisen sektorin toimijoita kaikista Itämeren maista. Luovien alojen edustajille tarjoutuu tilaisuus verkottumiseen ja näkyvyyteen osana kulttuurimatkailun moniulotteista kenttää.

Suomalaisia osallistumiskutsusta kiinnostuneita toimijoita kehotetaan ottamaan aloitteellisesti yhteyttä järjestäjiin marraskuun 2013 aikana. Tilaisuuden osallistujamäärä on rajattu. Tilaisuus on maksuton.

Osallistujien joukkoon toivotamme tervetulleeksi luovien alojen asiantuntijoita ja osaajia, joilla on kytkös kulttuurireittitoimintaan tai lähitulevaisuuden mielenkiintoa sitä kohtaan. Foorumin erityisteemana ovat muinaisjäännökset ja varhaishistoria kulttuurimatkailussa (viikingit) ja painopistealueena itäinen Itämeren piiri (Suomenlahden ympäristö, Luoteis-Venäjä).

BALTIC SEA CULTURAL ROUTES – EASTERN VIKING FORUM II

the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, in the framework of Finland´s Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), will organize a discussion forum on Baltic Sea cultural routes.

The forum will take place in Maritime Centre Vellamo in Kotka, SE Finland http://www.merikeskusvellamo.fi/en/

Eastern Viking Forum II will bring together roughly 100 invited experts in culture, human studies and tourism from all the Baltic Sea countries.

The programme includes the following three panel discussions:

Panel 1: The Baltic Sea in early history and the meaning of history to the people of today
Panel 2: From cultural substance to economically sustainable tourist products
Panel 3: Baltic Sea cultural routes: ideas, co-operation and funding
The audience is welcome to participate in the discussions using an on-line message board.

Background:
Eastern Viking Forum II is the sequel to ”Eastern Viking Forum (i) ”, held in St. Petersburg in April 2012. Both Russian and Scandinavian Viking heritage sites were discussed in the light of tourism and education.

Goals:
The aim of Eastern Viking Forum II in 2014 is to discuss cultural tourism and cultural routes on principal and practical levels. In the long run we aim at constructing new cultural routes in the Baltic Sea area. Special focus of the Forum is on the Viking Age: archaeological sites and non-material cultural heritage as elements for creative economy.

The challenge is to present early history to visitors without losing scientifically relevant information connected with the sites and stories. Economically sustainable cultural tourism is a solid basis for continuous work and good results.

Results:
We hope to make practical steps in cultural tourism. The most important results to be gained from the Forum are bilateral and/or international cooperation between the Baltic Sea States.

Funding possibilities for the development of cultural routes are provided by the European Union. There is plenty of new potential for EU-based and other investments in cultural tourism in the Baltic Sea area.

The final report of Eastern Viking Forum II will be published on the internet in summer 2014.
