The Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture will organize the seminar “Next Financing Mix: developing a sustainable balance between different sources of income”. The seminar will delve into the issue of new financing mixes in cultural institutions.

The role of the institutions, which constantly have financial needs, was widely discussed at one of the round tables of the NDPC conference in Warsaw (Poland) in 2012. Such institutions have an impact on the regional economy, although they seldom act with strategic goals when they require financial support. The competition for financing is something quite new for cultural institutions and all institutions are not ready for the public-private partnership model. Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) - representing the SME sector developing culture and knowledge based products and services - need access to financing and the possibility to develop on an entrepreneurial level. Therefore both groups of the CCI operators need some education in how to communicate with the private sector.

The seminar is designed to help cultural and creative industries operators to address the complexity and challenges of the issue. Some of the key questions are:

- What could be an optimal balance between different sources of income for the CCI sector
- What influences the choice of sources of finance?
- What is the business model of the present or the future activity?
- What are the consequences for the next financing mix of the enterprise?

The Russian Federation at the 15 SC meeting in Moscow came up with the proposal of the “NDPC project support instrument”, which would facilitate project support for cultural and creative industries in the Northern Dimension area; participants of the seminar will have the possibility to discuss and comment the first draft of the document.

The seminar will take place at the premises of the Nordic Council of Minister Secretariat in Copenhagen on 13 September.
